The longest part is testing. A Rafale is assembled within 2-3 months. Testing, optimizing etc. Can take years (eg radome must be fit for any individual radar as none o them is perfectly identical)

PS and yes, it is a beautiful plane. AFAIK, Indian Rafale are set to evolve in a f4.2 or similar version.

IAF Pilots Lukewarm Towards F-21 As Lockheed Martin Provides Access To Cockpit Simulator

IAF Pilots Lukewarm Towards F-21 As Lockheed Martin Provides Access To Cockpit Simulator

The experience received mixed responses with some pilots saying that they had a good experience and others opining that it was 'mediocre'.
"We have the same technology, as far as simulators are concerned. What they have is old," said a pilot after the CDS experience.

My daughter flew the same simulator in AeroIndia 2019.

IAF may induct first Rafale fighter in 3rd week of September

France is likely to formally hand over to the Indian Air Force its first Rafale fighter jet around September 20, two IAF officials said on Tuesday on condition of anonymity.

...

“We have written to the French defence ministry that the first Rafale should be delivered between September 18 and 23. The induction is likely to happen on a mutually convenient date in this time frame,” said one of the officials cited above.

...

While the formal induction will happen in September, the first batch of four Rafale jets will fly to their home base in India only next April-May. All 36 fighter planes will arrive by September 2022, a small step on the long road towards building a stronger air force.

“The Rafale fighters, equipped with the Meteor beyond visual range missiles, will significantly enhance the IAF’s strike capabilities,” said Air Vice Marshal Manmohan Bahadur (retd), additional director general, Centre for Air Power Studies.

India ordered 36 Rafale jets from France in a deal worth Rs 59,000 crore on September 23, 2016 — a deal that was at the centre of a political controversy in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

...

The Indian fighters will be equipped with Meteor missiles built by European defence major MBDA Missile Systems. The Meteor’s no-escape zone is touted to be three times greater than that of current medium range air-to-air missiles.

The jets have been tailored for the IAF. India-specific enhancements include helmet-mounted sight, radar warning receivers, flight data recorders with enough storage for 10 hours of data, infrared search and track systems, jammers, cold engine start capability to operate from high-altitude bases, and towed decoys to lure incoming missiles away

Guys
If we have ordered just 36 Rafales why does its numbering have 3 digits like RB 001
Does it mean that Dassault knows we are ordering more???

This useless tender is only allowing usa to pressure us to buy an obsolete aircraft.Scrap this shit .Place follow on rafale orders asap.So that no time is wasted. We are already at 32 squadrons with 11 mig squadrons to go by 2025. At most we can get 2 lca mk1 ,2 rafale and 2 su30mki squadrons as replacements. That puts us at 27 squadrons.Assuming we get another 21 mig 29 side deal and maybe another mki squadron,we still need at least 3 more squadrons to maintain current strength which is below par as it is.
So a minimum 54 more rafales should be ordered quickly.More later if needed, but Tejas mk1a will become available in numbers from 2025 onwards.
We already have paid for indian specific improvements ,and infra ,so price will be less.
Get 3 rafale squadrons quick and be done with it.More later if needed.
Superhornet has a case for the naval requirement as it can apparently take off STOBAR now and the new blk 3 model with latest long range irst sensor can detect stealth aircraft at large ranges when used in pairs to get a cross beam targeting lock.
