Norwegian Armed Forces

*Continued from Norwegian Armed Forces

Fast forward 15 years and the Norwegian Army is still in Iraq, only this time around it's focus is on counter-terrorism and training and intelligence support. The shift in their gear over their time in Iraq is fun to track, but ironically they're still sporting green forest camo, which when they were first deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, was all they had. Even today, with modern desert camo, new rifles and vehicles and all the bells and whistles, they're still bringing the Norwegian forests to the Iraqi deserts.

Training Kurds.

The Nordcapp OPVs and wartime escorts are scheduled to be replaced by the mid-2020s. KV Andenes has had several run-ins with Sea Shepard during her time in the Norwegian Coast Guard, firing on Neptune's Navy ships in defence of whalers on a few occasions and being rammed by M/Y Whales Forever, damaging both vessels. KV Andenes received a long gash in her port side while M/Y Whales Forever's bow was crushed. M/Y Whales Forever was sold by Sea Shepard in 1995 after being to costly to repair from the collision.

The missiles must be easy to remove?

Pretty easy for reloading ops. Just three bolts in the base of a canister and some wiring and they're good to go. They aren't hard to mount or remove, for either the naval or coastal launchers.

Unfortunately I don't know much about the recovery operation, so I'm not sure how quickly they can be removed, but from what I've heard the recovery process went smoothly with all missiles being recovered without further incident.

And in those cold waters, that is pushing it.

"You can die in just 15 minutes in these water."

Poppycock. We're Norwegian. Anti-freeze is in our blood. Ingstad sunk in the South West near Bergen where waters in the North Sea get around 6 C this time of year. Cold. Dangerous. But just part of the job for veteran commandos like MDK who spend much of their time in Norway's waters detonating mines and UXOs from NATO or Russian exercises.
