PAK-FA / Sukhoi Su-57 - Updates and Discussions

MLU = The jets have already gone through half their life, hence mid-life. Like F-16V, M2000UPG, Mig-29UPG etc.

Modernisation = New build aircraft with new avionics and perhaps even airframe and engine modifications. Like Su-35, F-16 B70, Super Hornet etc.

The cheapest and Quickest would be new MiG 29 airframes

Upgrade them , Put the Latest BVR and they can all replace MiG 21s

So, what exactly are you suggesting when you asked for modernizing Su 30 MKI?

The actual Super Sukhoi program, where there was a concept to make a more modern Su-30 back in 2010 instead of going for the FGFA. Basically a new Su-30 with Su-35 modifications and tech and perhaps more, like the PAK FA's AESA radar instead of Irbis-E. Maybe an Israeli AESA.

What's happenign now is not Super Sukhoi, it's just an MLU.

Quite unrealistic. While it is cheap to buy, maintaining and operating the Mig-29 is a different cup of tea.

LCA will replace the Mig-21s. Mig-29 cannot role-wise.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended #MAKS2019 air show on August 27, where the export version of the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter and MC-21 passenger airplane were demonstrated.

@Ashwin any thing new here ?
The planes looks good. With a powerful engine and radar it can be
Its been so quiet recently that I totally forgot that the FGFA even existed.:LOL:

So the Russians worked on a stealth fighter for a long time and now they want us to believe that their FGFA offer to us will be completely "new". I mean come on.
They need Indian money 😎, that’s it. They will keep coming back with one proposal or other. And I won’t be surprised if IAF actually falls for this trap by 2027-28. As usual the chance of AMCA flying it’s first prototype by that time is quite slim and a desperate IAF does not have any plan B for 5 th gen fighter.

My gut feeling is that by 2025-26 timeline, the PAKFA would've matured a great deal and we'd definitely be taking a second look at it. You can't write it off. As it is by the mid 20's Chinese 5th G FA will be deployed in significant numbers and while it's capabilities are moot, we certainly should err on the side of caution and not try to underestimate the threat they pose. Plus there's the question of the AMCA arriving on time which in any case is slated to be in the mid 2030's. Which ever way you look at it, we'd need a 5th gen FA by the mid to late 2020's and we've no choice but to get in bed with the Russians.

New Russian Su-57 Stealth Fighter Crashes During Tests

A Russian fifth-generation stealth fighter jet has crashed during tests in the country’s Far East, news agencies reported Tuesday.

The incident occurred days before Russia’s Aerospace Forces were due to receive their first serial-produced Sukhoi Su-57 fighter jet. Its developer Sukhoi plans to deliver a total of 67 fifth-generation Su-57s to the Russian Aerospace Forces by 2028.

“The Su-57 crashed during a test flight 111 kilometers from its home airfield,” Russia’s state-controlled United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) said as quoted by the state-run RIA Novosti news agency.

Its civilian pilot catapulted and survived the crash in the Khabarovsk region, Interfax cited an unnamed source as saying.

The Su-57 — also called the T-50 and PAK FA during development — has been billed as Russia’s answer to the U.S. F-22 Raptor stealth fighter.

Russia has combat-tested the Sukhoi Su-57 in Syria and showcased it at military parades. The aircraft had been tested at least twice in Syria, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, said last week.

An unnamed Russian military official told RIA Novosti that pilot error or a technical malfunction are believed to have caused the Su-57 crash.

I have been following the development of this engine and IHI XF9 very closely. Izd 30 seems better than even XF9 engine and I have also gathered that this engine is probably variable airflow engine.

I told you that a long time ago.

The fact that it's a variable cycle engine is also why I proposed the navy can position 20-40 PAK FAs in the A&N Islands. With mid-air refuelling, the PAK FA can easily cover the entirety of the SCS in a single sortie. With just internal fuel, the PAK FA can circumnavigate Sumatra and still be left with tons of fuel, and with 2 drop tanks, it can stay on-station for at least 2.5 hours. With refueling, it can stay on-station at Sunda for 4-5 hours.

The AWACS-India with its refuelling capability with 4 PAK FA can sustain ops in the SCS for at least 8 hours.

No carrier can compare with that sort of staying ability.

AL-51 is the best engine for MSA.

Why do you think I am keeping a very close tab on this engine? Plus what Safran wants to develop now for their future fighter is still behind this engine. However I do not know if Russians will clear it for export just as an engine. They will tie up Su-57 with this engine.
