Rafale DH/EH of Indian Air Force : News and Discussions

lol. So what does this prove? Congrats the Indian press knows how to use a name. It's still THEE ONLY SOURCE what is it
that you aren't understanding?
It proves that you've no clue what you're talking about . Stick to the technical side for that's where your prowess lies. Don't waste your time & ours getting into the poltics of it . That's neither your metier nor your forte as the past 6 months of engaging you has proven amply on innumerable occasions including the cause of your absence here .

You are talking about engines, I asked of you meant the 404 for the Tejas or dual use engines somewhere else. Yet EMALS are the catapult. You can't use US military stuff that is against US interest, they say no. I can give numerous examples. Including Turkey and Cyprus in 74, that has recently been brought up again with the s-400 .

We can go to war with America with American engines, no problem.

The US puts restrictions only on offensive weapons that can be used against another country. We have restrictions on how we can use the USS Trenton. But that's about it. Otoh, we can use the Apache or P-8I however we want to, so it's used in very specific conditions. It's not a blanket rule.
lol. So what does this prove?

That the F-35 has been on offer to India since the very beginning.

Congrats the Indian press knows how to use a name. It's still THEE ONLY SOURCE what is it
that you aren't understanding?

Pentagon is the only source, the only one that matters.

i missed the link you guys are talking about. Carter has been out of it for 10 years.

He thinks the US has offered India the F-35 but that aint true in 2007 India was very interested in the F-35 and got a non classified briefing like many nations at the time. As India really started to get interested the US put the brakes on India and pretty much told them no F-35 for you!

-The United States may allow India to purchase its fifth generation F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter. According to Pentagon acquisitions Chief Ashton Carter, “there is nothing on our side, no principle which bars […] Indian participation in the Joint Strike Fighter. The decision to pursue the F-35 is India’s alone”. In 2007 Lockheed Martin briefed Indian officials on the F-35, but eventually the move was blocked by Washington.

Indeed, India has asked for the F-35. Lockheed Martin vice president Orville Prins confirmed his company already received a request for information from the Indian Navy, concerning the naval variants of the F-35 aircraft (F-35B STOVL and F-35C carrier conventional take off variants), both capable of operating from current and future Indian aircraft carriers. “We are going to offer our aircraft to them.” Prins confirmed. The aircraft are required to operate off two indigenously built aircraft carriers currently being constructed in India and due to enter service toward the end of this decade. The Indian Navy currently operates 11 Sea Harriers and has bought a squadron of MiG-29Ks to operate from the ex Russian Navy carrier due for delivery to India by 2012.

US has never offered the F-35 to India, LM on the other hand has been open in offering the F-35 to India and that's because India was and is interested in the F-35 but LM is just open to it LM hasn't offered the F-35 like a few folks in here claim.

New Delhi was never critical over the level of technology represented with the U.S. fighters, but was reluctant to be lured into deals that could not be supported by technology transfer. In this field, the Americans are way behind, bound by complex regulation. The European competitors, primarily Sweden were eager to offer everything they could to pave the way for their fighters to win the Indian hearts and minds. In contrast, the U.S., limited by complex technology transfer regulation could not offer technology transfer and, when it comes to the moment of truth, may not be able to offer everything the Indians want to get.

US has never offered the F-35 to India, LM on the other hand has been open in offering the F-35 to India
Both LM & the US operate in mutually exclusive zones as per this member.

and that's because India was and is interested in the F-35 but LM is just open to it LM hasn't offered the F-35 like a few folks in here claim.
The level of verbal gymnastics here is to be seen & understood to be believed. It began with only Indian newspapers reporting this bit of news as if anybody prevented the US news agencies from doing so to who is Ashton Carter to now this.

I wonder if you're insulting our intelligence here or giving us more than a glimpse of yours.

Indian press are the only ones making the claim that the US offered the F-35 just like the claim that a PAF F-16 got shot down by IAF fighter with no proof. Carter never made an offer and that is that.
I wonder if you're insulting our intelligence here or giving us more than a glimpse of yours.
You have intelligence?

Indian press are the only ones making the claim that the US offered the F-35
The Indian press reported Ashton Carter then SecDef making the statement . They didn't pull it out of their a r s e unlike you & the sources you quoted unless you think he's an imbecile.

just like the claim that a PAF F-16 got shot down by IAF fighter with no proof.
The Pentagon / US State Department can call our bluff anytime by releasing the number ofF-16s in active service in Pakistan. Instead they awarded the Master Sergeant a medal for heaven knows what?!
Carter never made an offer and that is that.
Whom exactly did you quote in #4784 ?

BTW I've asked you this before - how old are you?

I just hope you aren't young enough to be sitting in your mom's basement banging away ( on the laptop) with baby milk powder smeared all over your nose from the lines you've laid on the kitchen table just to shock your ma. You certainly come across as one.

You have intelligence?
That the F-35 was offered to India ? It's pretty much OSINT out here. We kicked the US out much before UAE did so except we didn't publicise it , merely made a casual reference to it ( late Gen Rawat's statement ) which then prompted the US to behave like a jilted lover. Which part of it didn't you understand?

It's thee only source that claims Carter "offered" the F-35 when that is not true. What he did offer was the F-16 and F-18E. Being opened or considering is not an offer.

For doing his job and keeping the Vipers classified goodies from the hands of terrorist. Duh.
Whom exactly did you quote in #4784 ?

Why don't you read what Carter says. There's no offer and currently US is not interested in offering the F-35 even when India is really interested in the F-35.
BTW I've asked you this before - how old are you?

I don't go that way, bruh.
That the F-35 was offered to India ? It's pretty much OSINT out here.

Well many Indians live in a world of fantasy which is understandable...I know I would if I was cursed to live there.

Ahem...

Indian media has reported in the past that New Delhi has on several occasions expressed interest in acquiring the F-35 fifth-generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) from American defence giant Lockheed Martin. General Bipin Rawat, India’s chief of defence staff, says that the technology has never been offered by the US to India. Indian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat on Thursday scotched a longstanding rumour about India’s possible acquisition of American F-35 fighter jets, as he told a foreign policy conference that Washington had never offered New Delhi the multirole combat aircraft.

“I am not sure the US will share this technology. What they have offered us is a lower version of the F series,” Rawat said during a panel discussion at the ongoing Raisina Dialogue conference.

"Casual reference" you say? Oh the bruised ego/pride of an Indian makes them believe their own mental BS.

He sounds more like he's disappointed that they are interested in the F-35 but Uncle SAM won't offer it to them. How sad. :(

The US is interested in selling F-35s to India. India was never interested.

The IAF has officially denied any interest in the F-35.

The IAF only wants deals with ToT. The F-35A won't be coming with one, hence no interest.

Since the IN isn't really interested in ToT given the small numbers they need, the US pitched the F-35 to them. Hence why media reports hint of presentations being given to the IN, not the IAF.

Lockheed Martin intends to offer the Indian Navy the F-35 strike fighter. The Press Trust of India reported Monday that Lockheed will respond to the Indian Navy’s request for information on a carrier-based combat aircraft by proposing the F-35. It cited Lockheed vice president Orville Prins as saying in New Delhi that the company had already given presentations to the Indians on both the F-35B short-takeoff variant and the F-35C, which is optimized for large-deck carrier operations.

In the mid-2000s, the US showed off the P-8, E-2C Hawkeye and F-35B/C to the IN for their carrier requirement. The IN only went for the P-8. The E-2C failed STOBAR requirements, and F-35 was obviously not available. One can take it to assume the US wanted India to enter the F-35 program as a partner country at the time.

The Hawkeye E-2D has been under the US government’s consideration for India for some time. In fact, in 2007, sources in Washington had told this writer that the aircraft was being cleared, but apparently, the existing version, Hawkeye E-2C, was eventually offered to which the Indian Navy said ‘No’ in informal discussions.

Northrop Grumman has offered its E-2D for an ongoing Indian navy requirement for four carrier-based airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft.

And yeah... the classified briefing is only for those who have bought the F-35. It's the same with tenders. Full capabilities being offered are released during contract negotiations, sometimes after the contract is signed. You don't need the classified briefing to pick the F-35. Even tender evaluations mainly cater to general capabilities, and an option is given to the OEM to show off anything additional capabilities they want to, it's not a compulsion.

Report: India Requests Classified F-35A Joint Strike Fighter Briefing

-
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is formally requesting a classified briefing by U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin on the capabilities of its fifth-generation stealth multirole F-35A Joint Strike Fighter Lightning II, the aircraft’s conventional takeoff and landing version, according to Indian media reports.

The United States has not formally offered the aircraft to India and any classified briefing would require clearance by the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of State.

The bottom line is that it is unlikely that India will procure the F-35A in the near future as neither Lockheed Martin nor the U.S. government currently have any incentives for a sale of one of its most advanced fighter jets to India, despite the country recently being designated a Major Defense Partner. Instead, it is more probable that Lockheed Martin will establish a joint production facility for F-16 Block 70 in India.

Ajai Shukla is a paid Lockheed Martin advocate. Anything he says regardin the IN and IAF take it with shiploads of salt. Only worth following his articles on Army related stuff.

You are pushing it too far. There is no need for this. Like the US, there are a lot in poverty. There is also a lot of wealth.
"At the end of 2020, there were nearly 700 thousand dollar-millionaires in India"

Each party takes it in turn to say that they are not interested, so there is very little chance that it will ever happen.

The IAF has never been interested in the F-35. But as it is in bureacracy they will never say, we are not interested. Easiest way to figure out, is to look at the Staff Requirements as per procurement. The conditions are custom made for the Typhoon and Rafale, besides the Migs.

Rest are all participants in the dance competition. In Hindi there is a saying, "Paisa fekh, tamasha dekh". Throw money and watch the striptease.

Just a paid LockMart shill paid by LM to push for an F-35 sale in India. They were testing the waters, IAF shut them up.

The story so far.

US to IAF: Buy F-35A.
IAF: ToT?
US: No. Won't offer with ToT.
IAF: Not interested.
CDS Rawat: US didn't offer the F-35 with ToT.

US to IN: Buy F-35B/C.
IN: Participate in tender.
US: No. GTG, direct import.
IN: Not interested.

In both cases, the US offered to both the IAF and IN, India rejected. Looks like hillbillies can't stomach that.

Each party takes it in turn to say that they are not interested, so there is very little chance that it will ever happen.
F-35 has too many restrictions and supervision to be ever used by the IAF. We might buy the F-35B's in the future for our LHD's and Stobars but anything beyond 36 f-35's seems doubtful. We might see the f-35 in the IN but that too seems unlikely until we don't enter the american fighter sphere properly.

It's going to take the IN 30 years to match the PLAN on their own when it comes to carrier aviation, it's the one area in the military where India is significantly overshadowed by China. So whatever's needed for this job has to come from the US or France. With France backing out of fighting in the SCS, and other American allies going for mostly American stuff, it makes sense to buy some American stuff for the IN's use until they are ready to deal with the Chinese on their own.

Honestly going for a bunch Super-hornets and growlers wouldn't be bad. We can raise a fleet of naval tejas mk 2 based on the similar engines for coastal defence. F-35 B's will take a lot of time to come online. But I think the f-35 bought by india would be the most advanced. F-35I capabilities along with the meteor. If only...

The security enviroment prompts rapid change. Australia and UK were golden relationship with China for the longest time. It wasn't a guaranteed flip or anything.

UK was not going to ban Huawei until covid.

Rafale should get the MRCA tender, while F-35 can pick up the Navy. It avoids most of the S-400 stickiness I guess?

Not just the Indian Navy but your whole military is "overshadowed" by PLA. IAF stands no chance against PLAAF. Chicom air force is ahead of IAF in just about every category.
