S-400 'Triumf' News & Discussion

The impasse concerning the currency of payments has led to a delay in the delivery of two sets of S-400 surface-to-air [NATO codename SA-21] missile systems. To expand some of its Rupee reserves, Russia has now commissioned 24 cargo ships from an Indian shipyard.

Interesting though. 12 ships per S-400 regiment.

It opens up the possibility of paying for imports via more such barter trading.

This arrangement is win-win for both India and Russia. The last 2 S-400s are compulsory for our future war with Pakistanis, IMO.

I am not wholly sure on that barter part btw. Its true Rus have large reserves of rupees here, and GOI told them to invest in projects for the meantime as well as offering bilateral trade. Vice versa many oilfield stake related dividends are also stuck in Rus. So its a situation where both sides have something stuck in each side, and now trying to increase mutual trade? How does Rosoboronexport get paid assuming cargo ships would be under some other department ?

S-400 is vital for us, especially the remaining two units. Doesn't matter how we pay them, as long as we're getting our remaining 2 squadrons. Russia ordering cargo ships from us is also good news for our industry.

Intermediary bank transfers.

Some time back, they announced that iaf will no longer will be giving indian name to imported systems. If i am not wrong, they didn't give any name to MKI & Rafale. Sad to hear that they rivert back their own decision
The funny part about giving Sudarshan name to S-400 is that soon IAF is also going to get Sudarshan CIWS by L&T so they will be having 2 type Sudarshan in their fleet.

We need to buy some more so we can initiate the production of missiles in India. Leaving all production to the Russians is meaningless over the long term. I'd also like to see the addition of our own GaN MFRs to each battery, make it a mix of Indian and Russian, so in the future even Indian missiles can be integrated with it, like Akash Mk2 and XRSAM.

Ukrainian Patriot PAC2 had shoot down 5 su34 & 2 SU35 with in a span of 7 days. Pretty impressive. Earlier US had offered much advanced PAC3 to IAF for not going with s400. As usuals d!ck heads turned down this offer and wend with sh!tty s400 which proved its mediocresy during the ongoing war.
We litterally turned down the best SAM system for the sake of fictional autonomy and brought a SAM which barely works during war, that too for whopping 35k crores.

Scratch that, we had AAD for 10 years, if we wanted we could have modified it as a SAM.
But just like always we *censored*ed up

That's the plan, I guess(y)

It'a not easy to develop long range air defence like S-400. Our BMD was for specific targets. Now with XR-SAM, slowly we're moving towards having this game-changing area denial A2AD in indigenous form. Having S-400 helps us in our local development as we understand the operating procedures of this high-tech system better.

@randomradio

Apparently S-400 system is intercepting Storm Shadows in flock and even managed to shoot one Patriot interceptor missile, something that is very rare. Speaks volumes about its game-changing capabilities, IMO.

Kids like these need to grow up. It takes a generation to build in-house capabilities. If you want it fast, order and wait for delivery. Burn billions in Forex.

ADD cannot be modified to SAM just like that, its designed role is different. It is never optimal. It will be over weight and expensive for the role.

For instant satisfaction, watch Bollywood movies, not defense procurement.
