HAL LUH / Ka-226: News and Discussions

IA is the lead service in regards to procurement of the LUH just as IAF was for the LCH. IMO, the numbers will be:

126 for IA
61 for IAF

Both the services have already started the work on procurement of LSP series LUH with each service getting 6 helicopters.

He was referring to Ka-226 procurement were IA was the lead service. LUH procurement is separate, the split is 200 + 200 = 400.

I think he was referring to HAL LUH only not the Ka-226T. The total requirement is of around 400 light helicopters for both IA and IAF combined.

The plan was to have around 200 each of LUH and Ka-226T. Let's see how things progress.

The Army and the IAF began scouting for a LUH to replace the Cheetah and Chetak over a decade back and in 2015 the Defence Ministry decided to split the order into two, by procuring around 200 in partnership with a foreign OEM and another 200 to be supplied by the HAL by indigenous development. In line with this, India had entered into an inter-governmental agreement with Russia to manufacture 200 Ka-226T helicopters in India through a joint venture that has been stuck for a while and is now awaiting formal cancellation. Now the entire requirement will be met by the LUH.

Good, hell with Russian weapons.

hmm , is it really effective, wont wires hit the rotor by the time it even comes so close to the body?

I guess rotor acts as cutter..
It's protection for the other part..
But that structure in LUH looks more like antenna in Tejas than cutter..

So, HAL Tumakuru will mostly consist of coupling jigs for final assembly, whereas the production jigs of each module will be set up at outsourcing partners. These modules will be coupled together into a complete airframe at Tumakuru.

This approach will increase HAL's own productivity, and drive participation of Indian suppliers and MSMEs in the Indian aerospace manufacturing industry. This approach will provide opportunities to existing HAL suppliers, some of which already manufacture modules for foreign OEMs.
