Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion

Does anyone remember which one uses radome of 250mm dia and 650mm length? NGARM? QRSAM or Astra? It seems quite familiar spec wise but can not remember which one. R2 is slightly bigger dia afaik. This is obviously a high mach missile given silica radome is used.

Below are from two different RCI sow, there are couple of other sows too like industrial grade instrumentation, precision instruments stuff, wire cutter etc elsewhere I did not took pic of. Would be interesting if these are related to Rudram 3, the 2nd pic show a document designation as R3. 3rd pic is the same sow as 2nd, just what equipment it is about. Feels like a ground testing proto being made?

(NOTE: just my assumption, could be wrong)

@marich01

Any idea if we're pursuing any dual-seeker missiles(both EO+RF) like the Israeli Stunner? I think future belongs to such missiles and we must start to develop one too.

Did not know it existed tbh. I don't think I have seen much reference of dual seeker together. One IIR seeker fabrication sow was there quite a while ago. Once all the useful seekers are realised by local industry maybe then?

Trishul on BMP-2 chassis -- Lost opportunity!!

If we had developed something similar to the above system, we would have got a perfect replacement for Strela and OSA.

But, there is a possibility that we might see VSHORADS in a similar kind of arrangement.

Or , we can have something much better

Those of you know this torpedo stuff, is HWT used this way, ie already deployed or a new measure? As much as I knew HWT is mainly launched from ship deck? or am I thinking about ALWT?

Astra

I fails to see why they did not order more astra’s or even DAC request for more.

Are they waiting for current order of ~250 to deliver? Or waiting for mk2? They have 2000+ requirement.

Most likely because its still in user trial phase, aka final rec/improvement features not yet finalised & cleared by the user. Astra tenders came with astra mk1 UT seal recently last month. It would be some technical side I guess, like being sure the seeker works 100% spec wise at near faultless standard. Even with bloc wise upgrade, user input is vital.

Given we have such variety of BVRaam stuff in inventory, won't you think similar diversity range wise will be there for Astra too? I mean mk1 being used on tejas jets & mk2 on su30 primarily?

That is the thing which I hate most in the armed forces: Diversity in weapons. Just standardize some weapons instead of having 5 weapons for similar role.

I have question: why restrict Tejas with MK-1 won't it be better to give it MK-2 and make it more lethal. I do think that MK-3 will be used with special aircrafts but MK-2 will be made standard.

IMO, just waiting for MK-2.

MK-1 with limited run untill MK-2 comes and becomes standard BVRAAM of the fleet.
Mk2 is not automatically better. It comes at the cost of being heavier.

For 90% of the engagement scenarios both will perform the same.

650mm is Nirbhay/Tomahawk size. The three you mentioned are smaller. Could be R2 or R3.
