Indian Nuclear Attack Submarine (Project 77) - Updates & Discussions

I would again request everyone to only discuss things from reliable sources. We can have a dedicated thread for updates from twitter handles like this one or that babaji.
Better to keep those on twitter itself. No need to post these tweets here if there is no source. So many of these accounts out there trying get more engagement.

This steel will allow submarines to dive upto 600m.

Janes reports that the indigenous SSN programme will get CCS approval before mid-2022. Initially, $6.67 billion will be sanctioned for 3 6,000-ton SSNs.

Guys any update on this?
Its already the end of the year.

I read some time back the SBC already had a 2 line assembly which they would've enhanced to a 3 line assembly unit going by the fact that they overhauled a kilo class submarine which admittedly took them 8 yrs to achieve.

If this report is true we're looking at 6-7 lines of which 2 lines would always be dedicated for repairs & overhauls. Even if it's 4 lines dedicated to assembly that's impressive. It's probably equivalent to what the Chinese are operating today.

Is Chakra III still relevant?

Of course. It will be operational by 2026, we won't get our own SSNs until the mid-30s.

It would be great if a Chakra IV is also added to the mix by 2024-25, so we get it operational by 2030-31.

With 7 SSBNs and 6 SSNs, we will need 1 SSBN and 1 SSN dedicated to training crews, the two Chakras will allow our own SSNs for operational use.

We will need a Chakra V as well, since our 6 SSNs will take a decade more to deliver.

Theoretically if we've begun mfg the SSNs we'd get them serially from 2033 onwards. All we've to do is not screw up & ensure orders for the remaining 3 nos are placed immediately such that once these 3 submarines are launched serially we get to build the remaining 3 which in turn means we get the full complement of 6 SSNs by 2040 .

Why would we need a Chakra V is beyond me especially given the present status of Russia . What we do need is full access to their SSBN , SSGN , SSN & spy submarine programs including their strategic & cruise missiles besides of course their N reactors for civilian & nuclear use . Also their Pumpjet propulsion system.

Once we do receive the full complement of SSBNs , the Arihant would be relegated to training duties. That was always their plan . In the absence of any information out there in the public domain , PKS is the go to man although I haven't visited his blog in nearly 2 yrs now .

I am curious about their plans for SSK , P75I not going anywhere yet, funny thing is everyone is concerned on AIP & whatnot for that project but not considering the Govt approval part. Koreans won't be a problem, but I am less certain about their aip. German one which the navy like very much could get tanked by Govt dispute. MDL on other hand will look to expand their lines. So maybe in future scorpene with drdo aip & maybe ssn are going to be our main strength.

It's impossible to deliver nuclear subs every year from just 1 line. There will be a gap of 2-3 years between each sub. Even the US has a 2-year gap from each line. I'm expecting 3 subs between 2035 and 2040 and 3 more between 2040 and 2045. In the meantime, we could expand the line for more subs, but it's not gonna change anything for the first 6.

With 3 Chakras, one every five years, we will have a Russian SSN until the last of the 6 are delivered. Hopefully the last one is a Yasen (2036), with preferably a 15-year option, extendable to 25, its full life. And it doesn't have to be the last one either.
