It was an utter embarrassment for the nation, keep parroting the propaganda, nothing changes what happened on the ground.it is a warning, if pak military conducts a coup then we can say military is hostile and bang them.
Big question mark on these conspiracy theories is that did India take this provocative launch while hosting Australian defence head at the same test range on the very same day? I don't subscribe to such conspiracy theories being peddled by our countrymen. My understanding says that missile was part of military stock to be used for such offensives whenever opportunity presented, however somehow someone somewhere botched up in big way and missile launch got athorized. However as there was no go from political/military leadership, mid-course correction update might not have been given resulting in missile falling short of actual target, thus denying the terminal guidance seeker opportunity to kick in. Meanwhile contacts might have been made up to prevent retaliation and Pakistan acted in good faith? There are lots of if and buts in this incident as were there in search & rescue HELICOPTER shootdown in Sri Nagar. Obviously lots will be not be released in official finding report however those in know-how will get the max picture as was the case in heli shooting.I speculate its part of routine X-tests (might as well use up older brahmos as they approach expiry).
Carry an ELINT package (with relevant comms and maybe even own airborne bird further back)...given the specific wargaming needed for this system vis vis penaids and such....a routine intel heads up on when they will be needed. What better way than to do it on the system (with its speed and RCS) itself.
That's only reason to be testing in this area hugging the border IMO.
This time the last few minutes had a glitch and it landed and (prob safety fuse) destructed on the other side.
I tend to agree with what Nilgiri has posted. This is somewhat similar to the Russian threat to Zelenski of Ukraine, that if Ukraine moves ahead with its plan to join NATO, Russia will send Ukraine back to Stone age and Ukraine will keep blinking its eyes. We are seeing it happen in the past two weeks.
To me, this firing of a warhead bereft missile by India on Pakistan is to convey a very strong message to the enemy based on some Intelligence report that India acquired on an impending covert subversion or a terrorist attack of a massive scale in the very near future in India. Or the GoI must be waiting for the Elections to be over to threaten Pakistan for them having conducted a large scale subversion activity in the recent past, and that they may have been caught red handed which without any doubt proves their involvement.
India did not want this time to either provide a proof like they did by inviting them onsite in Pathankot case or take them to the Useless Nations Organization UN, or conduct messaging through allies (which are only designed to provoke into a conflict but dump when in need). Looking at how the West left dumped Ukraine when in crisis, this time, India has resolved to act independently. (Atmanirbhar in action about Action)
India further strengthens its warning by deceiving Pakistan that we at our will can make you to put in all your resources pointing towards Karachi, but in a flip of a second you will find the missile penetrating the pichhwada of your resources.
There is also a possibility of India gathering intelligence of an impending war with China where China may have planned and provoked Pakistan to act on the western border. Pakistan may have rolled up its sleeves. In order to warn Pakistan to stay away for its own good, India chose a precise target close to its taller than Himalayan friendship buddy China - the Mian "Channo" site (a la satire)
This spring, I hope some very bold actions and legislation by the GoI internal to India as well as some fireworks in N & NW borders.

Lots of assumptions while ignoring the real world retaliation risks.Guidance could change
It seems to be a test vehicle with no warhead. Most probably used for testing. It's not that big a deal. The Pakistanis would have been informed most probably..
It's also interesting that it went 334 km in total way over the stated range of brahmos
He is spoke person of govt so he is narrating the same thing which MOD wants.

Well , now is the time we miss the F-35 & it's E Virus like Stuxnet . We could've used it to jam the blessed missile before it crossed borders.Maybe it was trying to shoot down a PAF F-16 but Indian officer then realized that's not the type of missile for that?

Well it all turned out fine in the end the missile crashed in open space which is why Pakistani's didn't try to shoot it down.
Lets hope Pakistan doesn't have and oops of their own.
Porkis could even figure it out for the next 24 hrs and you talking about shot down lol.Maybe it was trying to shoot down a PAF F-16 but Indian officer then realized that's not the type of missile for that?

They're slow because they train with Americans who're slow to begin with . Took the latter 2 decades to realise they were being had by the Pakistanis. That's how slow the Americans are.Porkis could even figure it out for the next 24 hrs and you talking about shot down lol.
They do not need to "chori" anything. China operates a clone of Sunburn. Enough for them.Well this had to happen. As it is , content creators were running short of stories.
Well, After I learnt that US nuclear missile codes were 00000 for more than several decades, I have stopped believing in SOPs etc. I do not know what is happening anymore. One of these days, Priyanka Gandhi's son will be bringing a Brahmos to impress his girlfriend for all I know...i agree with what has been posted by @Hellfire. Anyone who believes that a missile like Brahmos can be fired accidently has to be a moron of highest order. Just to bring it out of storage and erect it for launching requires very strong authentication codes from the topmost echelons of Govt. Its not a diwaliwala rocket, bottle me daala aur aag laga dee.
There is a need for Air defense command we understood but still, we are unable to finalize the structure and in every field, there are underperformers (Gadhe), who don't know how to operate in complex scenarios and they exposed themselves when real-time situations arise, In case of full-time war you can hide these underperformers but in limited skirmish these guys exposed themselves and also we should welcome girls mainly on the technological front it will create a good competitive environment. When our Mirage 2Ks dropped Spice bombs during Balakot, every noob knew pak would retaliate given the pressure they faced from their public. They were able to send a strike package of 24 fighter jets while we only had 8 jets doing CAP and god knows what our ADs were doing...let alone the friendly fire debacle of Mi17-Spyder
If we weren't alert during such heightened tensions, I doubt we will now
Does any NSG commando have seen any missile during his service? And this fellow is giving expert opinion on Brahmos's launch.
@vstol Jockey this line sums up what happened...
Era of PASSIVE DEFENCE is over, its the epoch of OFFENSIVE DEFENCE!
