Jammu & Kashmir live updates: GOI remove all provisions of Article 370

Did we start something serious, or just blowing of steam this independence day?
It is customary for the Pakistanis to shoot our border posts on any day of celebration in India. It just so happens that there are way too many of our guys on the LoC, hence the carnage. I believe the Pakistanis started small arms and mortar fire, we returned fire with 155mm and ATGMs. Nothing new really, although the pace of caliber escalation is startling.
Baba claiming 200km of LoC is hot.
Claims of Neelam Valley being Hot.
Now claims of 155mm's being used.
A video is doing rounds on Pakistani SM about PA stopping civilians from traveling in PoK allegedly due to IA gun/artillery fire. Apparently the Pakistanis were strengthening their position in Neelam valley with AAA guns, probably to start a CFV at night. IA shot the guns being transported with ATGMs, presumably Milan-2T or the Konkurs. This forced PA to retreat off the Neelam Valley.

I don't know how much, if any, of it is true. I am not sure how we got a line of sight to fire ATGMs at the arms/weapons being transported. But the 155mm guns are firing relentlessly, that's for sure.

Russian position is along expected lines, if one were to closely observe them. There is nothing surprising in here. Russians, a) out of compulsion - they are in the Chinese camp , b) strategic differences - Primary threat to Russia is USA, and they also see everyone else as being with us or against us lens , i.e whether India is joining them to spite the US or not and we are not and this extends to many fields now, c) in their self interest - they have multiple strategic convergences with Pakistan in the theatre of Afg, which is obviously imp for Russia interms of drugs, payback to USA etc - have decided to take a neutral or slightly pro-China tilt and this is going to get worse for Indian interest. It is not that we have directly hurt their interest or they ours, its just the state of geo-polity now.

Its time Indians get off that India-Russia brothers high horse at the earliest and see it for what it is.

couldnt agree any more ,we should have a hang of happenings wrt to us.china is the real issue for us wrt to pakistan or sino -indo relation.no body question our pm in any of the interview
1) excessive trade deficit; what we have done to force them easing up non tariff trade barrier, opening of their market for our pharma and software comapnies
2) china always taking lines contrary to indian interest ,what steps we have taken to highlight, name and shame them
i have always noticed when it comes to pak this govt has taken appreciable steps but when it comes to china they chickens out.
we dont want enmity with them but they should also show concern towards our core interest. how you can expect india to give credence to their core interest only and in return out to damge ours.

ps: dont mention doklam pls , i appreciate and fully supported our action during those times and credxit must be given where it is due

That's why the Rafale deal... The veto from France was explicitly on the table...
we should fully integrate ourself with the france .they have lately become vocal for the indian interest.

i know they are too much money minded people but so be it,whatever suits us should be pursued, they have the technology which is comparable to american and certainly not possessed by the russian and russia was also supporting us for our arms market only .we have given too much disproportionate weigtage to england which it does not deserve.

I get the feeling we have been hammering them for sometime now. Softening them up before we attempt the final push towards PoK. There are also rumors of Pakistanis having low ammo on several sectors along the LoC.

DANGER!!!! I HAVE IT ON GOOD AUTHORITY THAT WINDY HAS MOBILISED THE PAKISTAN MUSLIM GROCERY STORE ASSOCIATION OF BIRMINGHAM TO HOLD A PROTEST OUTSIDE INDIAN EMBASSY IN BRITAIN. (HE HAS ALSO PROMISED PAK SHAHEEN BRITANNIA VISA POST RETIREMENT AND ORGANIZE PERMISSION TO OPEN GROCERY STORE IN BIRMINGHAM AREA)

By declaring Ladakh as union territory, Modi gov. has stepped on China's ball s deliberately. China does not consider the disputed India China border as 3488 km long, but substantially less than that, as it does not see Ladakh as part of India, though it does not state this openly. By declaring LADAKH as a UT, India is forcing China to explicitly recognise the full extent of the disputed border by establishing a fiat accompli.

What did Russia do? Didnt they just tell Qureshi that Kashmir is a bilateral issue?
they are open to discussion on kashmir closed door" it has been quite a long time since discussion has taken place on kashmir"
as stated by russian representatives

What makes you think Pakistan has no chance? All they've to do is ping the Twitter a/c here. Lots of Le Li *censored*ers who can't tell a Jammu dweller from one in Kashmir. Voila. Kasmir is in flames @HariPrasad

Haha I just mean (that in my view) the Pakistani establishment doesn't have a lot of options. Their economy is on life support and they have very little to no international support.

So what could they do?
They can sponsor an insurgency, but it is unlikely to achieve any of their goals in the long run and will perpetuate the "Pakistan = terror/OBL" meme abroad, potentially get them economically black listed, as well as creating further radicalization/violence domestically (the whole "snakes in the backyard" scenario). It will not slow down India's growth and will just create more unity through a common foe in India. It will only serve to cause strife and terror in the valley which will slowly but surely erode as people immigrate and the region economically develops. Its a losing strategy, all India has to do is weather the storm while Pakistan self-destructs.

Another Kargil-esque adventure could also be done, but what are the realistic chances they win? How do they not draw international condemnation from being the aggressor and how do they afford these operations if India chooses to widen the theater or draw out the conflict?

All out war is not an option - they won't win (everyone will lose if it goes nuclear).

So the only real option is to do nothing and focus on internal development. If they can become more economically powerful, many more options will open up to them. In the meantime Pakistan can continue domestic propoganda about the plight of other Muslims in the subcontinent to maintain public support on the topic/distract from other issues. It will be interesting to see how Pakistani strategy evolves in a few decades (if this is somehow still an issue).
