Mirage 2000H, MiG-29UPG, Jaguar DARIN III - Medium Multirole Aircraft of IAF

Yes there were editing errors in this news title, but rest are correct with the spare parts .

All sorts of marine operations. Well that's interesting that Mirage 2000 was never considered for marine version upgradation.
A) @pic has mentioned sometime back that 1 rafale = 4 mirage 2000s. Let's discount and assume 1 rafale = 2 mirage 2000s. With that equation, isn't it better to buy 6 rafales instead of costly 12 Qatari mirages?

B) Why can not Qataris use the mica missiles (being offered as part of the deal) with their rafales? Are those MICAs exclusive for mirage 2000s?

Unfortunately, @pic; @randomradio are no longer responding in these forums.

Depends on the budget, India is already negotiating for Rafales for it's navy.

They have Meteor too and most probably want the new MICA NG. And a package is always more lucrative than single unit aircraft sale. One has to wait for the evaluation before any conclusions are made.

Why do we have to buy outdated aircraft at high price?
Even if it's only 4 or 6 Rafales , club it with Naval order .

There are many advantages to this deal; you are getting these aircraft immediately, not after 2 or 3 years after deal. These are fully loaded, and it will be helpful to maintain the M2000 squadrons, We also have good M2000 trained pilots

It wont be fully loaded, we will need to customise and refurbish most of it. These were delivered way earlier than our upgrade.

As a stop-gap arrangement, the IAF is in talks with Qatar to procure 12 Mirage fighter jets. However, this is different from the ones that are being used by the IAF and, hence, is likely to be raised as a separate squadron.

Sources said upgrading the 12 aircraft to the standard of those operated by the IAF does not make sense because the cost would be very high.

just a question, how many mig 29s have been upgraded to the upg as of now and when can we expect all the mig 29s to be in upg configuration
66 mig 29 planned to undergo upgrade..

Even before Mirage 2000 upgrade was done, Mig 29 upgrade got over.
( think engine + radar upgrade)

We are doing upgrade s / life extension again instead of retiring...

( new engines, indian weapons)

These ac are being upgraded in-house by the IAFs BRD. No updates available in the public domain on numbers afaik.

But you can be sure the M29s are not getting retired by 2030 as some reports say. They will likely soldier on beyond 2035 until the LCA Mk2 ramps up.

The IAFs plan to buy 21 airframes from Russia is on hold for now but these too might get acquired soon.

May be put Uttam in all these UPGs along with our new dual-band IRST and then it'll become a kickass upgrade.

I definitely think that there is plan to replace Mig-29K's radar with Uttam MK2. It definitely can be done in the IAF's Mig-29s as well!

Do not use a Soviet airframe longer than the Soviets, despite what certification their OEMs give.

The Soviets hardly operated Mig21 airframes beyond 20-25 years. We operated the same designs for 35+ years resulting in so many mishaps.

When Lockheed Martin says 12,000 hours on F16 USAF and others actually do it., not the same as Mikoyan Gurevich signing off documents for life extension.

Tell that to IAF as they're planning to use Mig-29 UPGs upto 2037🤣

Considering the timeline of upgrade aircraft, the Mig-29UPG will start retiring by the end of this decade and will be completed in the early 2030s. It is best to retire these Soviet-era aircraft fast.

They will have to if ADA/HAL continues to not deliver on promises. Countless lives were lost in Mig-21 accidents due to their delays with LCA.

Yeah on that topic what happened to the 21 mig 29 and 12 su 30 that we were supposed to aquire from russia, why is it taking so long, when are we gonna aquire them
That plan dropped because of Ukraine situation. It no longer makes sense.

Things are in public domain. Last Mig-29s were upgraded in 2019-20.
