The Rafale or SH can be more expensive than the other depending on the exchange rate. In the long term it doesn't really affect India since the planes will be made and maintained using rupees.

But the qualitative difference between the Rafale and SH is so high that the SH is not worth it even if it costs half that of the Rafale.

IN has to go by USN lines. Soon we will realizes (or might already have) that to assert ourselves in global arena, we need to have our navy far stronger than our air force. That realization must come by now.

@vstol Jockey
US is covered by a natural defense shield in Pacific and Atlantic. India has Pakistan and China. So you can't compare India or really any country with US. As such India is not becoming any global power when we go about making Tejas and dream about obelete techs for the next decade while the actual global powers are sorting out technologies 2 generations ahead.

F-35 beyond any question for the navy. The STOVL version solves 99% of the IN aircraft problems. They can man the assault ships and launch off any Indian carrier. A nuclear powered Indian carrier is still at least 20 years away.

F-35C would make more sense since it could be fitted in Vikrant class and any future CAT carrier. Its performance sucks compared to the Air-Force variant but it has the same payload and slightly higher range. It is also a good deal cheaper than B

Pentagone doesn't accept anymore F-35
"he U.S. Department of Defense has stopped accepting most deliveries of F-35 jets from Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) because of a dispute over who will cover costs for fixing a production error found last year on more than 200 of the stealthy jets, three people familiar with the matter said."
Exclusive: Pentagon stops accepting Lockheed F-35 jets over repair...

“We’ve found a supplier that can produce a better DAS system at a significantly lower price that has significantly better performance,” Lockheed’s director of F-35 international business development, Steve Over, said at the Singapore Air Show. “So, we’re trying to find a way to break that into production right now. It’s somebody other than Northrop."

Then concerning the F-35 the programm is not very healthy do to unmanaged costs and quality.
The second link is of high interrest because it show that LM can't rely on political help if they can stop any supplier withoout caution.

We are doing what the Chinese were doing in the early and mid 2000s.

It's all up to money.

Heard that Mahindra has signed MoU with Boeing for MMRCA-II, is it correct ?
If true looks like F-18 will be pushed very hard this time.

F-18SH with 20% additional thrust will any day out perform Rafale in every department including EW suite. Rafale will never be a competitor for such a super hornet for IN needs either from STOBAR or CATOBAR carriers. I had written it not today but over an year ago. But we were not sure if Boeing will actually add so much of thrust to F-18SH.
Enhanced F414 doubles it's electric output too. A domesticated Growler sounds like a tasty proposition. Needless to say same must be a no-brainer for Mk-2.

We're mass producing MiG, Sukhoi and Lavi clones? Makin our own AWACS (plane incl.)?

Referring to R&D, not production. They were working on the J-10 at the time, similar to our LCA now. After the J-10, they progressed to making good UAVs and UCAVs, our stuff will follow after the Tejas. And then we will have the AMCA, similar to their J-20.

Only 20 years behind. Okay

but are they looking for 57 navy need or 110 IAF need ? will they agree for MII if it is for 57

I would say Minimum 20.

You need to also count the actual R&D conducted. We would be 20 years behind if systems and subsystems are also behind, but that won't be the case. For example, we will have caught up in most other technologies by then. Like, both countries can come up with GaN radars at the same time.

India dont need sea dominance just to be a global power which is a distant dream, but also to deter Pakistan and safeguard its route against China. I consider IN as our best bet against Pak.

Just imagine a actual Rafale with 2x85Kn....
Or a modified Rafale with 2x100Kn...

hum, people forget the view weight/power
SH E/F 13,8t empty weight, 29t mtow but the catobar carrier is limited to 25t
Rafale 9,5t empty weight 24,5t mtow
Mig29K 11t empty weight 24,5 mtow
F35C 15,8t empty weight , 31,8t mtow. (limit 25T for catobar carrier) wait for new generation carrier

how about Rafale with 20% more thrust.
