I see Indian society differently. You have a very Abrahamic "swacch" vision of it.

Which is why I have maintained that the far right in India are peas in a pod to the Islamists next door in their world view.

In an extremely religious country like ours you are bound to be rightist more so then a leftist (which are on a decline ever since the wave). You are correct to say we all are Indian first but are we really ready to accept that? In the chain of searching for a sense of belonging we ready to be a Hindu, Parsi or a muslim first then being an Indian first. Ofcourse that changes drastically when we go abroad.:LOL:

Most people were happy being just Indians.

Till about 5 years ago.

Sure we are all human beings. We like to herd and sub-herd.

But our cleavage planes always had the nice chuna lep of Indianness over the cracks.

Not now ...

Feroz gandy's father was Jahangir Khan, a muslim from baruch. His mother was a parsi. AFter his fathers death she took the child and went and lived with her spinster parsi aunt.

That is because the faultlines are DEEP

And the Chuna lep got worn off the day HINDUS elected MODI
despite Knowing that Muslims dislike him

That has caused the Rift

It was a 6 th Dec moment for muslims all over again

We could see their disbelief as if they were saying " How can you support this Guy "

And The secular parties keep harping on the same issues ; to keep the pot boiling

No. 5 years is too short a time period for a drastic change like that to take place, infact its been going for quite some time now.
The past five years have seen more prolonged efforts to amplify and use the divide between Hindus and other Abrahamic fate for their own benefits.

And its not only the BJP or RSS but liberandus are also responsible.

For us the Corruption ; In competence ; and Dynastic rule of Congress is a Bigger issue than
the PAST of a HARD working ; poor man who has come from a Very simple background

And who does not practice dynastic politics

Add to it the Periodic Bouts of Muslim appeasement such as opposing Ram mandir
Triple talaq ; supporting pakistan as Aiyar did

When All these things add up ; Modi's supporters find No reason to hate him

Being Indian is the ONLY commonly acceptable thread that binds us all.

Never under any government at the center has there been such a widespread perception/belief/confidence that India only belongs to one section of Indians.

And that the others are here at their good graces.

This is not a sustainable or tenable situation in a nation like India.

There has been No such thing done by the Govt

And secondly Identity Politics was and is still being played by your Secular political parties

Identity politics was started by Congress when it gave its formula KHAM ie
ksahtriya ; Adivasi ; Harijan ; Muslim in the Seventies

Such formulas have only evolved with time

BJP is atleast breaking caste barriers where as your Congress is inciting caste wars

Modi will win again but I do agree that India need Dr. Swamy as its FM. Modi did screw that up.

Like Hindu-Muslim, caste wars have always been there.

But the overt/covert ayushman bhava ashirwad to divisiveness was never more evident than it is today.

You are being dishonest if you do not accept that.

You want to Ignore Some things about the Congress
AND we want to ignore Some other things about the BJP

For me the Negatives of Congress are Much Worse than the Negatives of Modi
