The one mentioned as Type 095 is actually the Type 093A, Shang 2. There's now a Type 093B and obviously the successor, the Type 095.

The 93B is analogous to our LA improved in quietness and their appearance demonstrates that China is learning quickly about how to build a modern fast attack boat.”

So at least unofficial assessments put it in the same category as the Improved LA class or the Akula II.

Anyway, after building experimental subs, they are now entering the mass production stage, which means their subs are now competitive.

While I doubt they are at the Virgnia's level yet, probably not even close to the Yasen, but they could be just half a decade or so behind.

Paras defence also won an order for delivering glass cockpit/avionic suite and autopilot for Saras Mk2.

The S-81 submarine ‘Isaac Peral’ has successfully overcome the last safety milestone with navigation at the maximum operational depth, before its commissioning to the Navy. With the participation of Navantia, the Navy and the Ministry of Defence, this test took place last Tuesday. Therefore, the submarine has completed a major milestone and it will continue to undergo various tests until its final delivery.

The S-80 submarine construction programme thus consolidates itself as a strongly powerful product in the international market and also positions Navantia as a spearhead in the military submarine navigation.

The programme for the construction of four S-80 submarines for the Navy is a huge technological leap for Navantia, the Navy and the Spanish industry. With the execution of this ambitious programme, Navantia becomes a Technical Design Authority and as such it participates in the new Technical Office (OTACV), which will implement a new support methodology.

The president of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez, has expressed his gratitude to the participants in this programme: “Sailing at maximum operational depth is a symbolic moment for all those who are involved: the Ministry of Defence, the Navy, Navantia personnel and the collaborating industry. Has an official RFP been issued yet or are we still waiting? I've been digging around for it but couldn't find official confirmation. If not, has any reasoning been given why this has been delayed for so many years?

This is one area that is critical to get right, many of the hulls India is operating are from the early-mid 80s! From steel cutting to induction will take at least 10 years per vessel...

Since it's an SPM program, the process is different. RFP was issued in 2021. Most contenders have already quit. Sweden didn't wanna give away tech. France and Russia couldn't meet RFP requirements. Korea likely left due to pressure from China. Japan's constitution is problematic. Since only Spain qualified, the MoD gave the Germans more time to design their sub. The Germans had originally asked for a year, which MoD denied.

So now we have L&T with Spain and MDL with Germany left. They signed teaming agreements in July last year.

So the RFP stage is still going on. The formal bidding and tech evaluations will begin this year. The winner is also very likely to be chosen within the year.
