Rafale DH/EH of Indian Air Force : News and Discussions

How Rafale will deal with j20 future variants then? J20 being a true stealth aircraft will have advantages over rafales then.

We should order 54 Rafale urgently and rest of the numbers should be managed with f4 variants or f15EX.
If J 20 is really so good , Then China would have invaded TAIWAN by now

In that case , there is No point in waiting for F4 version of Rafale

We should at least go for 18 more F3R

Or else we will be forced to deploy All 36 against China

By the way have you heard of a Recent Upgrade of SU 30 which was evaluated by the Chief himself

What do you think , It might be , Any Guess

While I'm all for more Rafales, it needs to be a larger contract than 18 or 36. Preferably 90 jets MII.

We don't know what new radar the MKI will get. And we don't know if the engine will be upgraded. Most of the rest can be speculated since it's mostly Indian.
So praween Sawhney's assumption of a full scale arrack by china is a reality. But according to him Chinese attack will happen before 2024-25 time frame.

If the Chinese don't attack this summer, then it's unlikely they will attack anytime this decade. But that's just my opinion.

How Rafale will deal with j20 future variants then? J20 being a true stealth aircraft will have advantages over rafales then.

Rafale has the capability to hide from the J-20 and perform missions in contested air space. It's currently our only jet that can.

Against Taiwan, the Chinese need a better navy. But the expectation is that by the time the Chinese will fight Taiwan, there will be plenty of J-20s available. Although it's the navy that will see a serious upgrade, with brand new large LHDs and 2 new carriers to add to their first two.

Today, their J-20A is still a lemon. They need the J-20B, it comes with a new supercruise capable engine. Which is why I said in 5 years our air force will be useless. Within that time they should easily have 200+ J-20s in service. Then there's also a J-20C in the works with a whole new next gen engine. By the time the J-20C is introduced, we will need a pretty decent number of Rafales in service. Also the Su-57 if possible.

No, it's just part of the offsets related to the first batch of 36 Rafale.
Yes, I do know.
Government of India may be holding on the order for Next tranche or mmrca2 Rafale deal to see if all the off set including help for Kaveri Engine is completed which safran was holding up. Now that safran is completing its obligations order for Next tranche may be placed...

With four more Rafale aircraft landing at Ambala Air Force Station, India has a full-strength squadron of the combat aircraft

For the IAF, the Rafales are a welcome, and timely, force multiplier. But, with the Air Force’s combat squadron strength down to under 30, a far cry from the 42 that it seeks to maintain, the IAF is hoping that the Narendra Modi government will move fast and take to its logical conclusion the IAF’s long-deferred requirement for 114 MMRCA aircraft if it is to effectively deal with two hostile fronts. The MMRCA 2.0 deal is worth an estimated $18-20 billion.

For good measure and to abide to certain standards, here is an old footage of what I can only refer to as an "artistic object", perfectly depicting the kind of peculiar PR the french were producing back then, the taste of which you can still feel even nowadays in certain recent filmic productions regarding our favorite aircraft maker.
Each aspect of this "object" is like the delicate facet of a convolutedly carved gem that would be entirely constituted of stinky cheese and mustache hair on the molecular level.

It's called "Operation Global Punch", it makes zero sense to the point of being worthy of the french new wave cinema, it comes with awkward cuts, trippy music, english voice actors sounding like welsh sheperds, and, yes, it's about the Rafale.

@Picdelamirand-oil what would be the future of Rafale fighters post 2040? Do you have any plan to upgrade Rafale beyond F5 version?
You will be getting new stealth fighter by 2040 I guess. So chances Rafale's time upgrade will be a problem after that time frame I fear.

No, the Rafale was introduced in the Navy in 2004 and in the Air Force in 2006, and we still have 56 Mirage 2000-5F and 68 Mirage 2000D, compared with 102 Rafales in the Air Force and 42 Rafales in the Navy making a total of 124 Mirages compared with 144 Rafales.

We have just decided to modernize the Mirage 2000D.

If you look at the Mirage's characteristics, it is not ridiculous compared to a Typhoon, especially if it is part of a force where it can exchange tracks with Rafales, for example. So it's not because the NGF will be introduced that the evolution of the Rafale will come to a sudden halt.

the plan is to keep Rafale on line up to 2060 or 2070.
so F6 and F7 easily.
Along with SCAF Rafale will remain active. As Mirage 2000 now with Rafale.
