Weird kind of ban this is. In other words they shot themselves out of the market.

German human rights laws are weird. What is there to say?

Wasn't the B&T MP9 that we recently picked up meant to replace the MP5 ?

One can do it if they wish but IMO, the MP9 is more of a gun in the league of Micro-Uzi. The gun I'd want as a MP5 replacement across the board would be the SIG MPX (it appears NSG might just do down that way as well. they're trying it out alongside the KRISS Vector).

New telescopic sights for sig 716. What would be the choices for it.

Indian Army in hunt for 12,000 telescopic sights for assault rifles | India News

Interesting. Guess there weren't any optics (at least no magnifiers) part of the SIG rifle deal.

As of choices, it would depend on specifications required by the Army (which haven't been revealed in the article), like for example the amount of magnification power. If it's a 4x power requirement (which is pretty standard for assault rifles in many countries), the choices would very well include:

Trijicon ACOG

ELCAN Spectre

SIG Sauer BRAVO series

...among others. Unfortunately, there aren't any Indian companies with product offerings in this category. But it's very much likely the responding foreign companies could tie-up with an Indian private firm for local production keeping the huge order quantity (and potential for future sales to other military/law-enforcement customers in the country) in mind.

Types of sights are being procured for sig 716 are Telescopic, Thermal and Night sites. So the men manning the loc will have all the requisite technology and arms to confront infiltration and BAT sqauds. An Indian army soldier guarding border outpost at loc armed with sig 716g2 assault rifles in addition with telescopic, TI and night sites will send the tremor waves to terrorist.
Sigs are coming, Ak 203 are coming, LMGs are coming, now only carbines remains. I am getting a sense that army will go for ak204 carbines instead of carcal 816 as acknowledged by one of army's official.

Indian Army deploys US-, Italy-trained snipers with deadly new rifles along LoC

Elite units deployed along the LoC have been given the new .338 Lapua Magnum Scorpio TGT rifle by Beretta and the .50 calibre M95 rifle by Barrett.

New Delhi: Elite units of the Indian Army, equipped with deadly new sniper rifles, have been deployed along the Line of Control with Pakistan after special training from American and Italian experts.

Sources in the Army told ThePrint that units carrying the Beretta .338 Lapua Magnum Scorpio TGT and the Barrett .50 calibre M95 have been deployed at the LoC ahead of the infiltration season, which is expected to start soon.

Specials units, along with some regular soldiers from the LoC battalions, have been trained by experts from abroad on the use of these weapons and the different kinds of ammunition to be used based on operational requirements.

Sources said since these rifles have a much longer range and power than the ageing Russian Dragunov that the soldiers were using until now, specialised training had to be given so that targets could be taken out at over 1,000 metres with precision.

What’s special about the new rifles

The US-made Barrett M95 is an anti-material rifle which has a range of 1,800 metres. An anti-material rifle means the bullet can actually pierce through metal.

The gun, which is in use with many special forces around the world, is a bolt-action sniper rifle chambered in a .50 Browing Machine Gun cartridge (12.7×99mm).

With an unloaded gun weighing about 10 kg, the M95 first came out in 1995, and is part of the Barrett M82 family, the first notable American made .50 calibre anti-material rifles introduced in 1982.

The rifle feeds from a five-round detachable box magazine, and is lighter and more compact than earlier products.

The other rifle handed to troops along the LoC is the Victrix Armaments .338 Lapua Magnum Scorpio TGT, owned by Italian firm Beretta.

The Scorpio TGT uses the .338 Lapua Magnum (8.6×70mm or 8.58×70mm), a rimless, bottle-necked, centre-fire rifle cartridge.

It was developed in the 1980s as a high-powered, long-range cartridge for military snipers. It was used in the Afghanistan war and the Iraq war.

Although the .338 Lapua Magnum was initially developed to penetrate body armour at 1,000 metres, it has been used effectively to 1,500 metres and beyond, and holds the distinction of being part of some of the record-breaking sniper shots in war.

At least 30 countries use the .338 Lapua Magnum sniper rifles, and over a dozen manufacturers produce guns, in multiple configurations, in this calibre.

Let's hope they can institutionalise sniper training.(y)

An in-house modification of the HK416N - a marksman HK416S. it's rare to see pictures of them out in the open due to the clandestine nature of Norwegian sharpshooters. The HK416S is like the shiny Pokemon of the Norwegian Army. It exists, but finding one is a pain. Even I don't have a lot of pictures of them:confused:.

Germans are weird and their export laws even weirder. They'll sell to the Saudis, but not India. It's a loss, but there's enough business in the US and Europe right now that H&K isn't feeling the heat too badly at the moment. Big orders from the US, France and Norway have helped them weather any loss of the Indian market. I hope Germany changes its laws though. India has a lot to offer as a design partner and export destination.

In-house as in German modified and Norwegian used or Norwegian modified and Norwegian used ?
What kind of modifications were adopted over the standard model ? Used by sharpshooters, so I imagine an extended barrel, enhanced bolt carrier group et al. Is the firing mode limited to safe/semi-auto or is there a full-auto available like how the New Zealand military use their new LMT ?
You seem to post exclusively about the Norwegian military, are you former or active member ? Love the pics keep them coming.(y)

I doubt it. MIL-STD drones like Netra are controlled via a secure terminal (like the computers on the right here):

Netra is currently the go-to quadcopter for RR troops for surveillance ops within their AOs. Don't think commercially available drones (which would be controlled via an app or something) are used.

Hard to say, doesn't have any identifying marks on it (at least none that I'm familiar with). But SSG 69s are typically fitted with either Kahles or Hensoldt scopes.

The Colt M4A1 SOPMOD with an Aimpoint Comp M4 Red Dot Sight, acquired from the USA by the FMS program. It was initially used by the Parachute regiment exclusively, soon enough it was adopted more widely by various SF units.

Quite naturally, after a while police unit started using it as well. Here is a photo of Karnataka Police counter terror unit with an improved M4, Advanced Colt Carbine-Monolithic (ACC-M). Photo was taken during a joint exercise with the NSG on a metro rail, I think. Notice how the guy is wearing Army pants.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
An awful lot trickles down from military SF units to police CT units.

But unlike the IWI Tavor TAR 21 the M4 never became as widely accepted in military SF units.

IN MARCOS
They have a wide variety of weapons in a number of different calibers. They seem to be particularly fond of their AKs given the sheer number of appearances they make with an AK.

Also look at the number of types of camo they seem to use.

MoD was supposed to order some SCAR-H/L from the US through the FMS route. I guess the clearance is stuck due to elections and all. Let's see if the SCAR gains more popularity than the M4.

Can't tell from the image if the bolt is Mauser or Lee Enfield, knowing OFB's record this is most likely a recycled Ishapore 7.62 sporter with SMLE bolt in a nicer stock. Hopefully properly bedded. I read about this rifle a while ago and seems like the user specified this stock.

what optic is being used on the rifles?
There was an internal tender issued by OFB for sniper scopes. It wasn't published who won, so I can't say anything for certain. But I have a strong suspiscion that the company that won was "KHALES" and the model we purchased is the "K525i"

also how is training of IA snipers with new barrett m95 and scorpio
They are being trained by the Italians and the Americans along with the OEM. You can actually see the American influence trickling down. Notice the second pic where the shooter is crouching and firing ? that stance is directly out of American sniper schools. Also notice the last photo has a distance maker saying 500 yards ? Since when do we calculate distance in yards ? Americans do that.
NSG still seems to use too many mp5
arent they being replaced by anything loke
a 11.5" ar 15 or atleast sig mpx
They are looking for replacements. NSG tends to use a particular weapon for a while by ordering small batches before choosing to order them in bulk. They were seen with SCAR-L, SCAR-H, Sig Saur MPX, KRISS Vector recently. All of them in small quantities

Well actually it's a copy of the SSG 3000 woodstock variant not the polymer.
