Sukhoi Su-30MKI

must be a credible news considering the length of title of blog

consider my Idea as Indian version of famous "Prozekt Azb/Gazb or Kazb"
@jagga badmash

If a NG can be made then the AAM can also be made

However the real challenge would be the Seeker or Guidance

But the real Fun would be to see the slow moving AWACS and Tanker RUN for its life 🤣

It will have to dive and Turn and run away 🤣

So you want to see a CM weighing in Tons and having rang of 300-500 km as a antiAWACS missile ?
a better option would be what chinease did ie smply enlarging the existing dual pulse motor BVRAAM and add multiple seekers for jamming resistance.

I dont understand the technicalities

You can shoot it down with SFDR ,or S 400 or Brahmos or Novator K 100 or K 77 --Whatever it is None of my business

I only understand the importance of the" Splash " that it will make

That might be the point.

It's light enough to be carried by any aircraft in sufficient numbers, MKI will be able to carry 5, and will have advanced enough technologies in it to have AAM capability. And it will likely have sufficient speed as well. Plus the unique advantage of a fully powered flight. It will likely be designed for an air to surface range of at least 400Km, if not more, so it will be suitable to deal with high altitude threats at even longer ranges than that. It has enough space for a large suitable warhead that can make mincemeat out of any HVA available today.

Since both Brahmos NG and this new AWACS-killer can be carried by Tejas, they are most likely one and the same, only with different avionics.
Does it have terrain following or contour mapping abilities like tomahawk or storm Shadow?

Brahmos is highly manoeuvrable and can pull a lot of Gs, no different from a dedicated AAM of its class
Doubtfull Brahmos can pull 50G.
The only asset of Brahmos in this kind of mission (if ever) is the big warhead (as SAM 2 with its 150kg warhead that offsets the low final precision).
It's official news. It was confirmed by the CEO of Brahmos Aerospace.

As I said, only potent against slow agility target.

The best option is mig31. If you want to shoot down PAF AWACS, just take of from our airbase & fly high towards the target and shoot it down. But IAF didn't pursue that option.

Yep.

Yep, it's an AWACS-killer. It's not meant for use against fighter jets, although it can still kill any aerial target that is not expecting an attack.

Brahmos is highly manoeuvrable and can pull a lot of Gs, no different from a dedicated AAM of its class. There are in fact even larger missiles than the Brahmos-NG that are used as SAMs. Did you forget PAD and PDV are derivatives of Prithvi? Or the sheer size and weight of the 48N6? There are even larger SAMs than these two in the S-300 family like the 9M82. The 40N6 is also much bigger and heavier than Brahmos NG.

Anyway, as mentioned in the article, while the form factor will be the same, the internals will be different. An AAM requires a different guidance, seeker and warhead than the A2S version.
We are not talking about SAMs here but 1.5 ton cruise missile to AAM. Can you give a contemporary example?

This will be the world's first such missile.

The AAM version will be much smaller and carry a smaller warhead of just about 60kgs. That will allow the missile size and weight to be reduced drastically

If Brahmos-NG can be carried by the Tejas, then its likely to have already undergone enough modifications to suit the purpose compared to how it was initially advertised as many years ago.

To spend 18,000 cr on 12 Su 30 mki & 21 Mig 29 = 33 aircrafts,

Can we not buy 58 more tejas mk1 A?

BTW Su 30 and Mig 29 are coming with aesa and advanced electronics?

No, we need fleet optimisation. The 12 MKIs are needed to bring some squadrons back to full strength so that their missions are not compromised. And the Mig-29s have always been missing an extra squadron. Also these jets will come in before the first Mk1A squadron is fully raised and operational. So adding 58 more that will only come in around 2030 won't be helpful to the IAF in the next 2-3 years. It's no different from adding more Mk2s or AMCA Mk1s.

Anyway that 18000Cr isn't for the jets alone, it's a comprehensive package. For example, the MKI contract may include half a year to one year's worth of spares supply for the whole fleet in case war breaks out, and could begin delivery within a year. Or it may have some new tech that's meant to go into most or all the MKIs. Maybe some new weapon.

@randomradio

Unlikely. MKI seems to be a repeat order. The Mig-29s are from the Cold War era upgraded to UPG standards.

Major upgrade programme
A major upgrade programme for the entire fleet is under negotiation with Russia to give the aircraft better radar, avionics and weapons among others. Initially, it was envisaged that all upgrades would be incorporated per aircraft at one go but given the cost and time that it would take to cover the entire fleet, the IAF has decided to go for capability upgrades in phases. “Some of the most pressing upgrades would be taken up in the first phase,” the defence official said and some of the modifications being pursued locally are already under way.

Russians will be drooling to leach IAF and extort hefty amount. It’s side effect of having a huge inventory of foreign origin asset
