It will create monopolies. We are big enough to require competition.

We eventually will need private sector companies taking over because only they have the flexibility to stay ahead of the competition. PSUs need MoD permission for pretty much everything.

If one of the iterations of the Uttam - the Mk-2 is to be the AESA radar for the LCA Mk-2 , apart from another iteration possibly going into the MKI itself , why can't it be the same for the IRST for the LCA Mk-2 ?

No idea and beats my logic. Duplication of efforts avoided can increase our equipment procurement by minimum 10% yearly without CAPEX increase. But here we are.

It depends.

BEL's tech that is going into MKI may not necessarily be the same as the one ADA chooses because it's not DRDO tech. It's likely that DARE is working on an IRST of their own for LCA. Especially if we consider BEL tech is just repackaged Israeli tech.

In the long run DRDO should stick to developing exotic tech and processes, while leaving everything else to the industry. We actually need the private sector taking over R&D. DRDO+DPSU combine can't create a revolution, they can only chase after others.
 
Dont know why IAF is upgrading MKI, especially early batches. This Russian bird demonstrated it weakness i ukrain war( also in feb27), let retire early batches MKI and replace it with F15EX as stop gap measure. Mean time start a program to induct an indigenous heavy class stealth fighter by 2040-45 time frame.

If we can get an UTTAM AESA on SU 30 along with
With good DARE SPJ and Some Israeli EW equipment , then our needs can be met at a lower cost

The Russian economy and arms industry is in disarray

So it is better to wait and watch and let the situation stabilize

If we buy F 15 EX , our maintenance problems will increase even further

Better to buy More RAFALES

You still need Russian helps to integrate all these i beleive. The fly by algorithm is still Russian one.
