Tejas Mk2 (Medium Weight Fighter) - News and discussions

Even the Chinese AESA has found market. Do list me the coustomers using Russian AESA system.
Forget export coustomer, there is not even 10 AESA using aircrafts currently in Russian Airforce.
How do you know if Russians aren't using them ? & as for chinese , the less talk about them the better.

Tejas mk 2 is a useless project & is inferior to western fighter jet on offer & there's nothing indigenous about it.... even modern Russian fighter jets have better much more advance electronics & Radar.....yes it's true....very very hard for fanboys here to fathom but modern Russian AESA are a full generation ahead of Uttam AESA so are Russian EW system....another Tejas in making lol.
Better buy F 21 or Rafale in large numbers if u are serious or continue with hera keri as usual.

The F-21 sucks, literally. Cutting edge electronics, but not enough of it, in an obsolete airframe. Rafale isn't competing with Tejas, Gripen E and F-21 are.

LCA Mk2 doesn't need to be the best, it only needs to fit the mission profile. As long as our primary air superiority fighter does its job, the LCA only needs to adequately perform against diminished threats. So there's no need to waste money on imports for this requirement.

Indigenous is subjective, but we need to start somewhere in order to make our own MKI replacement 15 years from now. Or we will keep importing for the next 100 years. So LCA is a very good starting point. We are entering a stage where if the primary ASF is not Indian, then we will lose the air war by default. Why? Because importers are 10-15 years behind countries that create their own IP.

As for Uttam, while the Mk1 model going on the LCA Mk1A may not be as good as a Russian radar, there is a whole new family of Uttam radars being worked on. Mk2 is going on LCA Mk2, and we could see Mk3/Mk4 etc for MKI MLU and AMCA. So it's an evolutionary design. I don't know how far it's true, at the very least HAL is claiming the Uttam Mk1 is better than the EL/M 2052 going on Mk1A. So that's something.

@Gautam has explained somewhere, we are leaping forward in radar tech ..
Working on exotic techs.

Yep, TSA antennas coming up.
Let's believe it when we see it...such tall claims have been made multiple times in past , until than it is a big if.
jumping from dipole to TSA is more than a 2 generation jum in AESA technology. Building one for seeker is completely different from building one for Radars.

The work on the TRM itself is complete. Let's hope we find out more during AI 2023.

The Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared the proposal. There has been a two-year delay because of various reasons. We have rescheduled the rollout of the first prototype to December 2023 and, worst case, by March 2024. We are targeting the first flight by December 2024. We will have four prototypes ready by 2027, and then production will start," he added.
🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

"We started with 75 per cent and will reach 82 per cent. The engine will be manufactured in India. In this regard, we had MoU with GE for its manufacturing with 100 per cent transfer of technology. With that, we will be touching over 90 per cent indigenous content," he said.

That's more like it. I'm surprised the Americans agreed.

So that's 400-500 engines for LCA Mk2, TEDBF and AMCA Mk1 in total.

Now I won't be surprised if this is coming in exchange for the MRCBF contract. @Picdelamirand-oil @vstol Jockey

@South block
This makes LCA Mk2 very important for our industry.

This has been added to sweeten the deal for F-18 blk3.

28 jets are so miniscule for an entity like Boeing, why they are giving this much offerings to India?

The relationship is bigger than just a few jets. They want access to the overall aerospace market, and this is their way in.

Like I mentioned earlier, 100% engine ToT opens up the market for other jets that will use the same engine. And this could even help them grab a large piece of the pie in the civilian market. Can you imagine a Boeing factory for airliners in India? That could open up an export market worth tens of billions. Plus they want to enter the Indian market to stifle future Indian competition, so it's a long game for them too.

Yep. It's really interesting though. France stepped in with Rafale + AESA back in 2007, so Boeing and LM matched that offer. Now the same is being repeated with engines. And MRFA and MRCBF will give us different benefits from the best Western tech providers.
But we must ask GE to upgrade F414 to 132KN thrust as that is what it is capable of with a 5% larger fan and 6th gen Turbine. The F-18 Blk3 uses 116KN thust engine and it was kept to 116KN only because the air intakes can support 84kgs/sec air flow.
