Tejas Mk2 (Medium Weight Fighter) - News and discussions

But we must ask GE to upgrade F414 to 132KN thrust as that is what it is capable of with a 5% larger fan and 6th gen Turbine. The F-18 Blk3 uses 116KN thust engine and it was kept to 116KN only because the air intakes can support 84kgs/sec air flow.

The Americans are offering an F414 cousin for AMCA Mk2, competing with the British and French engines.

For LCA and TEDBF, ADA/HAL seem to be fine with the standard 98KN version.

I'd definitely like to see the 116KN version on the SH and AMCA Mk1.

LCA MK2 will be available in early 2024, after a one-year delay.🥺 Perhaps they are just planning for a surprise to be given something during the election time :)

Tejas mk2 has been delayed no doubt about that and same with amca and imrh as well. Main culprit here is the ccs who is deliberately delaying the approval.
The design was all reviewed and finalized only in November 2021. So there's no way the 1st prototype would have been built by now. Its not possible. Even for stabilised production lines, it takes upto 24 months for completion of the aircraft.

So untill we get the 1st prototype within 18-24 months from November 2021, that's between May and Nov 2023, we are perfectly on time.

And it will take 40-60 days of ground testing before 1st flight. So add a couple of months. So till we get the 1st flight in January 2024, we are on time.

And then we will need on an average around 800-1000 hours of flying, so between 4 prototypes, that's approx 200 hours each , so we should be able to complete the certification of the airframe in 5 years from 1st flight.

And then CEMILAC and other certifications for Quality Assurance etc will take a year.

So by 2030, we should have Tejas MK2 ready for production.

This is a very reasonable time. And when we do this, we will outdo LM, SAAB, Dassault. No one has ever developed a 4.5 th gen fighter in this short a time.

when it happens lets talk about it. Dont think HAL will let it go so easily. They will be more interested in having order book filled for next 50 years.

HAL, ADA and everyone including HVT has explicitly told they ll deliver at certain time ( as decided by ccs) after deal is signed.
Putting ball firmly in CCS court.

Roll out is on track by mid 2022. From interview a year back.

They switched to giving realistic timelines after CCS clearance. Before that the were just selling the idea.
