Tejas Mk2 (Medium Weight Fighter) - News and discussions

Any Suggestions How Can we improve accountability Of HAL/ADA/DRDO?
One is to privatize. Any other??
Bring in private consultants from bcg or McKinsey.

Their first recommendation would be to trim down the workforce, following that there would be a union strike the next day and the day following that gov would fire the consultants instead. ;)

Union strike??
Govt can handle that.

The Americans are offering an F414 cousin for AMCA Mk2, competing with the British and French engines.

For LCA and TEDBF, ADA/HAL seem to be fine with the standard 98KN version.

I'd definitely like to see the 116KN version on the SH and AMCA Mk1.
May be they will offer PW 229 for AMCA,along with F15 in mmrca2

Reason is simple freebies.
Social welfare spending is required for sustaining long term growth. Without that it'll be nearly impossible for is to catch up with China in the next few decades.

In terms of defense, our priority should be to maintain a minimum credible deterrence for the next decade till we strengthen our economy.

Now 3 yrs delay in first flight lol . These scumbags will keep shifting the date at this rate first squadron won't be raised before 2040 , when the whole world would be flying 6th gen jets.

These morons couldn't even develop a 4.5th gen jet on time ,on the other hand both South Korea and turkey have developed their 5th gen jets on record time . If it continues then We should forget about amca.

The research and development agency DRDO has set a target of the first flight to take off by December 2024 and by 2027 at least four prototypes are expected to be built

I've pointed this out here some time ago , please mentally prepare yourselves for the 1st FOC grade Mk-2 to roll out of the production lines in 2030 even when ADA / DRDO was predicting first prototype roll out by 2022 & first flight by 2023 with FOC & mfg by 2027-28 , back during Aero India 2021 .

Anything later than 2030 & the entire process would've not achieved it's final goals .

You hold this thought at the back of your mind whenever you read such articles & you'd be at peace. Believe me , this is following of this program since 2003 during my college days talking especially B R F since 2006-07 .

I think I've seen people actually grey pre maturely out there besides bringing on themselves Hypertension for their frustration at clueless antics exhibited by all concerned parties namely GoI , MoD , ADA , DRDO , HAL & IAF . The only unsung hero in all this is MP & the only clueless joker of the project is A K Antony .

I think we can witness Mk1A induction in full. ( 50 yrs of age)

Mk2 maybe ( 50-60)

Amca don't know.

Tedbf ¿¿¿

Now I understand why we are buying interim Rafale M

I don't think there is any "contract" for development of a system. That only to applies to outright buying of production systems.

This test pilot don't know anything outside of HAL. Sometimes even inside.

Remember, laughed it off when news of HLFT-42 and that's a HAL program.

That timescale is in financial year terms so 3rd quarter of FY25 would still be by 2024 December, which is what Dr Kamat also indicated during Defexpo interview ie they want to rollout first proto by end of 2024. Now HAL outsource a lot of work so maybe even with delay the actual delivery can maintain agreed timeline. Now this is for contract dealings of Mk1a. Mk2 is proto stage so I also expect some delay & rollout by 2025 June bar anything drastic. We have to understand CDR clearance & money approval came very recently. Without that nothing was certain, programs do get shelved sometimes.

Amca, IAF was right that they do not expect to get a fully flying squadron level usable jet before 2040. I also maintain that timescale.

We bought Jigs long back, was it necessary to build prototype s?
Or is it for production aircraft s?

Then once HVT said Jigs are ready but not not orders. Here also development vs Production orders were confused.

Now today's news are they talking about Production aircraft s or prototype types?

Obviously it prototype according to financial express link I posted above.

Can u clear the doubts about it.

For example even though first mk1A from production lot will fly later,
Modified Mk1A from Mk1 ie prototype is already flying.

Similarly will development sample of Mk2 will fly before production Mk2?

For mk2 there will be prototypes first obviously, whole new design with canards, different from mk1/1a stage. I think by rollout they meant prototype rollout. At least that is what Dr Kamat sir said during defexpo22

below are the parts where they talked about lca mk1a & a bit mk2, last call they mostly talked about su30 engines, a bit on amca , the heli side, bit on uav side etc. very little on actual mk2 really.

Like everyone I am also waiting on what their current plan is, but that part about work share with ADA etc, these processes can cause a bit delay. Actual work definitely have started since program got funding cleared. So fingers croossed timeline could be met. My take is that they have concrete orders of 83 mk1a, and Mk2 is a proto rollout case. So precedence will be given to fulfilling those Mk1a orders first, because those production lines will then be diverted to Mk2 once the 83 orders are cleared. That order clears by 2028 or so by contractual agreement. So this timeline 2024-2028 gives HAL enough time to prepare Mk2 into production ready. I am not sure they will be opening a separate production line dedicated to Mk2 before 2028.

Then this article is right?
Maybe extended to roll out by 2025
Production from 2028.

Anyways same was the plan before too..
Mk2 production following Mk1A isn't it?

Question is will 2-3 years enough for mk2 flight testing?

Yeah plan wise I guess yes. Obviously I do not know enough to judge if 2-3 years are ok really. I am hoping some subsystems avionics that are common used will not take further certification flight trial and unlike mk1 this time HAL will start modular building method to cut down extra time taken during Mk1.
