Ukraine - Russia Conflict

I'm not sure they did actually. They invaded Georgia, not much happened, and it was a walk in the park. They invaded Crimea and Donbass, ditto again. There was nothing in the history of their recent 'adventures' that suggested this was going to be met with such resistance. The attack on Kiev was made from two directions with large forces and they got very close, that alone proves that it was not a diversion. You can also tell by reactions from meerkat Sergey that the sanctions response was unexpected too.

That's irrelevant though. The only point is they did go to war.

And BTW Germany and France rejected Ukraine's application in 2008 due to the an ongoing corruption scandal with a pre-revolution government.

And what about all the years after that?

Your point was that they'd planned for it, they hadn't though.

They haven't been rejected on grounds of democracy recently.

More sanctions coming.

Well Paddy , Irish Joe certainly has a spring in his step . Hard to believe he's pushing 80 ? What do you reckon ? Will the sanctions come before or after he croaks ? Put another way do those sanctions bear fruit before or after he croaks ? What're your thoughts sweetie ? @Innominate

Planned for what, Chechnya and Georgia?

Nope. Not a democracy.

To meet one of the three main criteria for entry into NATO, a European nation must demonstrate a commitment to democracy, individual liberty and support for the rule of law. While Ukrainian leaders say they have met that threshold, some American and European officials argue otherwise.

In a 2020 analysis, Transparency International, an anticorruption watchdog, ranked Ukraine 117th out of 180 countries on its corruption index, lower than any NATO nation.

She signaled that might not be the case with Ukraine. “That conversation would be slightly different than it is with countries that are making the transition to democratic systems and dealing with intensive problems of corruption and economic reform and democratic stability, etc.,” Ms. Nuland said. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Her comments echoed those of Mr. Biden on his 2014 visit to Ukraine. “To be very blunt about it, and this is a delicate thing to say to a group of leaders in their house of parliament, but you have to fight the cancer of corruption that is endemic in your system right now,” Mr. Biden told Ukrainian officials then.

“There are steps that Ukraine needs to take,” Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, said in September after President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine met with Mr. Biden in the Oval Office. “They’re very familiar with these: efforts to advance rule of law reforms, modernize its defense sector and expand economic growth.”

Nope, they don't think Ukraine is democratic enough. They apparently don't even have proper rule of law. :ROFLMAO:

Planned for sanctions when they started this war, or planned for how hard it was going to be. They hadn't though, because no recent war or invasion they'd conducted had indicated what was in store.

Their elections are internationally approved so your opinion is irrelevant. And as a supporter of Russia, where opposition members and journalists get killed, you wouldn't know democracy if it bit you on your ar5e cheeks.

India is ranked 85, which is also way lower than any NATO country (e.g. UK is 11), so you must not be a democracy either. Russia is 136.

India's score is 40, here's what it says about that:

Two-thirds of countries score below 50, indicating that they have serious corruption problems, while 27 countries are at their lowest score ever.

The European countries and US are much closer to the top of the list, therefore we are better placed to decide who is a democracy and who isn't.

So, you have serious problems. However, it is often difficult to route out corruption, especially in fledgling democracies like Ukraine. In 2010 Ukraine was 146 on the same list, so they are at least improving. You, however sir, were 91, you so you barely improved at all. You've also had like 75 years to unfuuck yourselves, whereas they've only had 7, whilst in the middle of wars with Russia and lots of Russian meddling.

Take the log out of your own eye first. Honestly, avid RT watchers daring to lecture on democracy and corruption.:ROFLMAO:
