To be hypersonic you have to use a scramjet mode and not a ramjet one.
This is far more advanced than that. A cutaway of the Chimaera engine (for Quarterhorse) from their website, note pre-cooler. It's like the SABRE system. Darkhorse uses the Chimaera II and replaces the J85 integral turbine engine with an F100.

Speed is one thing, but scramjets have shitty fuel consumption relative to ramjets and ramjets have shitty fuel consumption relative to gas turbines. Darkhorse will give Mach 5 and decent range.

Last time we had this conversation about 6th gen fighters and their maneuverability(or lack of it) vs 4th/5th gen fighters. You said they would sacrifice agility to gain on other metrics.

I had argued that what if 6th gen planes not only improve on stealth/sensors/range/AI but retain the maneuverability of the 4th gens!?

Looks like 6th gen planes are going to be more maneuverable than previously thought. Now how would evolved 4th gen(like Rafale) counter these if say China fields their 6th gen by 2030? We need modernised Su-57M to counter Chinese 5th and 6th gen threats, IMO.

Nah, they won't be as agile as 4th gen. It only needs to be agile enough to dodge missiles. But it doesn't need agility for dogfights.

We don't know what capabilities 6th gen will actually bring. But most of the advances will be centered around avionics and stealth rather than performance, so the Rafale will be able to compete until the time 6th gen actually matures by 2040 or so. Post 2040, the Rafale's capabilities will be a bit more limited in comparison, but that shouldn't matter to us.

Posts which you won't see sweetie make ever. Why? Very simple. Posts which go against the notion of F-35 being the very salt of the earth as far as the USAF goes gets his / xis / her / xer panties into a real twist.

Like this one reporting why the USAF has quietly trimmed it's year on year induction of F-35 by 24 units already & while it's likely to increase that rate of trimming down further, even now swears it'd stick to it's original plan of inducting 1700+ units.


Yeah, of course, we believe you. Don't we sweetie? In the meanwhile, the USAF has quietly gone ahead with plans of procuring ~180 units of multi role F-15 EX FAs as replacements for their legacy F-15 C & some D units which've seen service for close to 4 decades.

Quite the development, isn't it, sweetie? I'm sure "it'd make you lulz at given the many deficiencies the F-15 EX has, which you know deep down but still declare the EX to be the best ever 4th Gen FA ,"something worldly wise people call putting lipstick on a pig. @Innominate
