I wish but it's future appeared to be bleak as of now.

@vstol Jockey sir, what your thoughts and Do you have any idea what is happening behind the closed curtains as far as FGFA is concerned and DO you think it is comparable to US 5th gen fighter aircrafts and do you think F-35 could be an alternative to it?

PAK FA will happen for sure, 100%, if not FGFA.

With the J-20 coming up, there's no way the IAF can afford not to sign up for it.

May I call it the IFRA : Indian French Rafale Agreement ?
The first one is the IFRA36 and the second would be IFRA 150 ... I'm hoping.
Too good and big to be true I'm afraid.
A follow on order of 36 would be nice.

Step by step Bro.... 36 every 2 years during 10 years is perfect :D

First parts for both Falcon 2000 and Rafale delivered from DRAL in 2018, starting a ramping up of 5 years. (Trappier this morning). Expect first fully indian Rafale in 2023 i suppose. My guess : new strategy : build supply chain and procudtion line, then say to govs hey! Look at hat you got here!

You could sign now for f4 like France have already done and prepare DRAL directly for this config.

When a contract is signed, delivery should be done within 3-4 years. As it stands today, the Rafale F4 will become available only in 2025, that's 7 years away, probably 8 years.

A better bet is to order 36 more Rafale F3R through GTG and let the new MMRCA tender take its course. The 36 can be delivered between 2022 and 2026 and the tender can start delivery from 2026 onwards. Even if by some quirk of fate Rafale loses the tender, the IAF will still have at least 72 Rafales.

But an agreement now on Rafale f4 could help to integrate Indian Scientists In different PEA like DEDIRA for example.

I think a global agreement is feasable since you could sign for 36 f3R now and the rest in F4. This would help to secure the French gvt on a lot of strategic subjects (like germany). But even for you that give you time to integrate main PEAs.

We are not interested in developing the Rafale, we are only interested in purchasing it. We are not sure if we will become actively involved in the development of the Rafale MLU either. We may decide on a configuration that France will have to develop and then sell to India. So the agreement you are referring to cannot be done today.

Right now, Rafale is a purchase contract, nothing more.

Right now stealth projects are emerging everywhere. I'm not sure that your scientists have access to huge datas with the Pak-Fa then even to prepare the AMCA (without thinking to the rafale MLU) your scientists could hurry their Learning curve together with the french scientists ?

IMHO, these are the only 5 possibilities I can think of.

1. Sign up for 36 more F3R by 2020 and then a new GTG for 120+ F4 after 2022.
2. Sign up for 36 more F3R by 2020 and go for a competitive tender for F4 after 2022.
3. Sign up for 120+ Rafale F3R by 2020.
4. Sign up for 120+ Rafale F4 after 2022.
5. Competitive tender for F4 after 2022.

We have multiple programs for stealth aircraft. But there is no plan of working with the French in Rafale related R&D before a contract is signed and jets are delivered.
