WRT TVC and crazy stuff in Air. Are you sure? Are you among those who can tell engines apart based on their exhaust ports like the cpc bots? or am I missing something here.

I suspect that images and aesthetic differences might just be different variants of the AL31 assembled in China and not necesarily WS-BS.
You are right but what makes the difference is LCA mk2 or MWF will be having one of the most reliable turbofan engine GE414epe and a whole lot of Western avionics, electronic warfare suite and weapons like Astra missile, sfdr, Mica Ng ASRAAM, SAAW, most probably Hammer guided bombs, etc...
That will make it a much potent and reliable platform for decades to come...
Nah, the engine is the real deal. There's no Russian tech involved. They also have the WS-10C operational on the J-20 and now they even have a next gen WS-15. No relation between the Fencer and WS-10.
They have at least 100+ J-20s operational with the above engine as well.
