Rafale DH/EH of Indian Air Force : News and Discussions

Even then, the frame are going older and older, and the RCS of Su30 will remain awfull.
It's a big upgrade, but only an upgrade.
During this time more Mig21, 27, Jag will be phased out.

In HAL ? like M2000-5 (with some problems and delay...)

The Mirage 2000 upgrade was
Expensive only because we got it done here in India

Also it is taking so many years , work is still going on

I believe that Dassault would have flatly Refused all The ISE work to be done in India , because the Technology and Equipment involved is Very High End

If we order 36 F 4 Rafales ,then we have to stand in the Queue Behind UAE and other countries

That means no more Rafales till 2027
We don't need to . If faster induction to make up depleting squadrons is the name of the game , go with what is there not what will come in a few years . Later one can upgrade all one wants .

I am not sure about other upgrades but Uttam AESA, RVV-BD... definitely yes, if budget permits

Without more powerful Jammers , you are Basically giving away your plane as a GIFT to the enemy

It is only the Elta Jammer that Saved the Su 30 on 27 Feb 2019

IAF does not want F 3 R , ie the present one

This is what I read on Twitter

So An upgraded SU 30 is Equal to Rafale F 4

Nope.

By the way , UAE has already ordered 80 F 4s

So the only way we can get them is through 114 order , which has its own set of complications

Not just for that reason.
Strange that the 32 already delivered can't be upgrade in India. In DRAL for exemple...

It was supposed to be upgraded at an IAF base, but that's not gonna happen without actual Rafale expertise. Plus it may not cover some types of upgrades.

Please explain in some detail
That is the Difference between F 4 Rafale and Upgraded SU 30

The Mirage upgrade was Technologically at par with SU 30 that we make at HAL

So our HAL engineers could adapt and learn

But Rafale technologies are at present just the stuff of Dreams for our People

You damage something , who will pay the bill 🤣

There are only 36 very Precious
Gold plated Rafales 🤣

It's like comparing the iPhone to a Chinese phone.

Rafale has next gen performance and combines that with next gen avionics that work. The MKI uses an old airframe and there's no guarantee that the next-gen avionics won't face problems. Maturity of technology takes a long time.

Not evident.
UAE will never take 3 birds/month (the maximum capacity of the Merignac line). I think some space in the planning remain...
And don't forget that it was rumored that any new indian contrat for Rafale will see an assembly line in DRAL (I think with a minimum. Saying 36 ?)

Mki's future is to be bomb truck like the f-15EX or the su-34. The RCS is just too much of a weakness especially against the Chinese.

The DRAL facilities did not exist when the contracts were signed.

The UAE have not yet paid their first installment. As long as it hasn't happened, their contract is not valid. If you don't want to wait, you just need to sign and pay before them.

MKI can use bigger powerful radar and longer-range missiles but the problem is the design and development should be specific to MKI like RVV-BD which will engage the enemy from a longer distance . You can't have a missile for MKI with a similar range that LCA can fire. If IAF is planning to keep the MKI as a front-line fighter then they need to upgrade with Uttam AESA radar and RVV-BD missile ASAP.

Don't the Eagles face the same problems ? Ofc it could be argued that they'd be following the lead of the Raptors & Lightnings. We'd have to either wait out for the AMCA or go in for the FGFA .

Huge RCS is a concern if MKI is facing a stealth aircraft, against regular aircrafts with reduced RCS its not a matter of concern at all.

What if Su 30 uses IRST to detect
Hostile Aircraft while keeping its Radar Switched off

BEL is making a New IRST For SU 30 better than The Present OLS 30

Against the PLAAF, yeah. Against PAF, the MKI will become obsolete only after they deploy next gen capabilities, and nobody knows when that's gonna happen.
